TOUGH. TIME-TESTED. TRUSTED.
From our roots in the middle of the industrial heartland, Poynette Ironworks has earned its place and reputation as the Midwest’s largest and most reliable manufacturer of large-scale, heavy-duty manufactured steel products. While we specialize in refuse and recycling containers – including signature products such as small box and large box containers for residential, commercial, construction, industrial and other applications – we also manufacture specialty use items such as chipper boxes, dock carts, grease bins and sea crates. Top that off with a full custom shop to build any product you can imagine.
Over the past 25 years, we’ve grown to a 110,000-square foot facility with more than 85 employees. We’ve delivered well over 30,000 truckloads of containers – the equivalent of nearly 400 million pounds of steel. We continually build our team of skilled craftspeople and work every day on the continuous improvement of our operations to be best positioned to meet the needs of an evolving industry and customer base.
Today, still based in the small town of Poynette, Wisconsin where we launched in 1996, we remain as committed as ever to our core values of innovation, trust and excellence in everything we do. Simply put, we’re known as the quality choice because we build a better container.
The Spark That Fuels Our Fire
How did we get here? Well, we sort of have a hard time saying no. Instead, every time we’ve encountered a unique request or creative idea from a customer, we’ve instead said, “how can we make this work?” Having started in the industry by repairing broken containers instilled a tenacity and problem-solving mind-set, and that’s the spark that continually fuels our innovative product development and our ever-expanding services. It’s the catalyst that has helped us grow our offerings, both spec and custom, every year since we started.

Who We Are, At Our Core
The honor our history and look toward the future with a promise to uphold these core values every day, throughout our entire operation:
Innovation: By keenly listening to customers and working tirelessly to address every need, our engineering professionals – with more than 100 years of combined experience – never say no and never give up on crafting creative solutions.
Trust: Our customers know that above all else we stand behind every product we make. They count on us on to do what we say and deliver what we promise, because we’ve proven it to them time and again.
Excellence: How can we take the best care of our team? Are we sourcing the best materials? Can we offer the best value to our customers? Do we need to adjust any of our processes? These are just a few of the questions that shape our days and drive our continual quest for excellence.
Quality: From the strength of our raw materials to our industrial enamel finishes, from the initial designs to unmatched integrity of finished products, our commitment to quality from top to bottom and start to finish means we simply build a better container. Period.
Where It All Began
In 1996, brothers Bob, Guy and Kim started Poynette Ironworks with one modest building, a rusty pick-up truck and a John Deere tractor. With an opportunity to get into the dumpster rebuilding business and jumped on it. They bought an old 40’ x 60’ pole barn on a land contract and borrowed just enough money from the local bank to buy the necessary used equipment to get rolling.
Their mantra was to “Kick our competition’s butts … by spoiling our customers rotten.” Even as the company grew, it was often one of them who answered every phone call. This guiding principle led them through every upturn, downturn, and curveball, and they credit it – along with a continually expanding team of dedicated employees – for their growth and success.
While Poynette Ironworks operates today with an expanded leadership team, the original commitment to place customer needs at the forefront of operational decisions and product and service offerings remains a guiding principle.
